Newspaper Readings: The USA in the People's Daily is a reader for the American student who has completed one and a half to two years of modern Chinese. The fourteen selections included in the reader show how the U.S. was depicted in commentaries and essays in The People's Daily from 1990 through 1991. Covering the education crisis, social injustice, human rights violations, and racial discrimination, the articles are generally critical of, and even hostile to, American society as a whole: their controversial nature will elicit student interest and classroom participation. The CLP's Newspaper Readings: The USA in the People's Daily Audio Recordings (available in USB format) cover all lessons in the text. Institutional copies are also available, and come with a license agreement authorizing limited distribution and reduplication rights.
